"Hidden" Carers Project
Watch our video
Are you supporting someone? Many people care for a loved one without ever calling themselves a carer. Watch our short video to find out how Avanti and our partners can help.
Avanti is proud to be working with Merton Council and other local partners on a new project to reach unpaid carers across the borough. Many people support a loved one without ever calling themselves a carer, and don’t know what help is available to them.
About the project
In Merton, over 13,800 people provide unpaid care. Many are not yet connected to the support available through Merton Adult Social Care, Carers First Merton, Merton Mencap or Avanti. Our aim is to change that: helping residents recognise themselves as carers, raising awareness of the support on offer, and connecting people to help before they reach crisis point.
What we’re doing
- Reaching new and unidentified carers across Merton, using creative and community-based approaches
- Raising awareness of how and where to access support, including signposting to Carers First Merton
- Sharing Merton Council’s new-to-caring guide, Caring for Family and Friends
- Helping more newly identified carers register for support services
Carer’s voice
We’re also supporting Merton Council in shaping its new Carers Strategy and Prevention Strategy, making sure carers’ own experiences and priorities inform the services built for them, through surveys, events, and community discussions.
